B. NEIS Assessment Materials

    View/Download PDF

The purpose of assessment is to confirm whether or not an individual can perform to the standards expected in the workplace (business), as expressed in the Competency Standards in the Business Services Training Package (for the Certificate IV in Small Business Management). In accordance with the National Framework for the Recognition of Training, assessment must be: competency-based and make reference to the relevant criteria.

These Assessment Materials have been developed by Innovative Business Resources utilising a unique integrated approach, which makes reference to all criteria and ensures competency-based standards are met.

The Assessment Materials comprise four components:

Components
  1. The Assessment Overview: provides a summary of the possible sources of evidence that may be used in assessing the various Performance Criteria within each Element of the Unit.
  2. A range of Assessment Tasks: address the required Performance Criteria within each Element.
  3. An Assessment Key: provides answers, suggested responses and guidelines for judging the competencies demonstrated by candidates in their completion of the Assessment Tasks.
  4. A Record of Assessment: summarises the sources of evidence used to assess the required competency of the course, and whether or not each competency has been met.

The features and benefits of the NEIS Assessment Materials CD include:

Description

Benefits

CD : The assessments and business plan checklist are provided on CD.

CD's ensure that the integrity of the original content will always be preserved and it increases the longevity of the product.

Integrated Assessment: This approach meets all unit competencies and elements.

The majority of competencies are assessed holistically through the business plan and the need for post-business (review) assessment is minimised.

Workplace Assessment: Some elements are unable to be assessed through the business plan as they are mainly relating to the ‘application of knowledge/skills’.

Rather than undertake simulation assessment for the ‘application of knowledge/skill’ type elements, a review or post assessment may be competed. This can be integrated with the NEIS Mentor requirements.

Reproduction: The facilitator may photocopy the post assessments as required.

Allows the facilitator to photocopy assessments for NEIS client evaluation.

Business Plan Checklist: Provides both a reference for participants in the preparation of their Business Plans, and a marking key for the assessors of those Business Plans.

Assists the NEIS client to compile the Business Plan during the course of the training. Assists the Facilitator in ensuring that the NEIS participant has a quality Business Plan for presentation to the panel.

Assessment Overview Matrix: Presents a summary sheet to indicate that relevant assessment criterion has been met.

Assists Facilitators in meeting their competency-based training requirements, and checking NEIS participants' understanding of the training they have received.

An overview of how Employability Skills can be assessed is also provided.
